Samsung G810 Review
 |
Not long ago Samsung was announcing the G800 model which was
the worlds first 5 megapixel camera phone and the new flagship for
the company.This month Samsung announced it's new flagship , the
new Samsung G810.
At first this may seem a little odd , launching a new flagship
in less than one year , but if you take a closer look at the phone
we can understand why.If the G800 model was a great phone for photos
and multimedia the new G810 also has blogging,web-browsing and navigation
making it more a mobile computer than a simple camera phone.Beside
all of the things we already mentioned ,we must add that the G810
is running on the S60 platform like it's rival Nokia N95,so the
release of this new model was a necessary step for the Korean manufacturer.
The phone is running on Symbian OS v9.2, so the Samsung
G810 ensures the highest level of power efficiency and platform
security.The company won't stop production of the G800 model now
that it's successor has arrived.

Samsung Geesung Choi, President of Samsung's Telecommunications Network
Business, said: "The introduction of Samsung's G810 shows our continued
commitment to bring Symbian OS-based smartphones to the market. We will
continue to provide a wide variety of mobile phones with Open OS to meet
the needs and lifestyles of today's consumers."
Samsung G810 has similar dimensions with its predecessor (103x53x18mm
) and in terms of weight the new model has gain a few grams so it weights
139 grams, both are sliders and the color schemes are similar though the
G810 is a little similar in design to LG Shine.The phone will be available
in two colors : silver and black and will have a metallic finish on the
casing.The phone can't be called a small phone but in terms of dimensions
none of it's competitors have smaller dimensions.As for the built quality
we can't say that we found anything wrong , the phone is really well built
without any creaks.
Samsung G810 has a 2.6 inch display with TFT technology and a resolution
of 240x320 pixels.The display can show up to 262 000 colors , and if you
compare the display of the G810 with the one found in Nokia N95 we can
say that Samsung's display is a little better. The display can show up
to 12 text lines and 3 service lines.
The keypad is made of plastic ,the keys are well organized and easy
to use , and another great thing is that there are no touch sensitive
buttons in this phone.As for the backlighting part , the keys are lit
in white and are well visible in any conditions.
The phone has 130 Mb of internal memory that can be used by the user
, and 84 Mb of RAM.The G810 can handle memory cards up to 4 GB, and as
rumor has it the retail package will have a 2 Gb card included. The handset
comes with USB 2.0 and once connected to a PC you can choose one of the
following modes: Data Transfer (Mass Storage USB), PC Suite, PictBridge
, Media Player (MTP protocol).
The phone also has Bluetooth 2.0 and it supports all major profiles,the
top speed that can be reached with the G810's Bluetooth is around 100
Kb/s
Samsung's new flagship has a 1200 mAh Li-Ion Battery
, and the manufacturer claims that it can provide 2.5 hours or talk time
and 250 hours in standby mode, and if your in GPS mode the battery will
be empty in around 2.5 hours.
The
navigation
As we mentioned earlier the handset runs on the S60 platform , but this
doesn't mean that it has the same application as Nokia.Samsung has installed
on the device the Navigon application, to be more precise the G810 has
the Navigon 6.27.A downside is that you have to install the application
manually after you connect the phone to your PC,we can't find any reason
why Samsung didn't delivered the phone with the application already installed.
The phone has a few preinstalled applications like Adobe PDF and QuickOffice
, Flash Player , Video Editor and Voice Signal.
Camera
Samsung G810 has a 5 megapixel camera with xenon flash.The G810's
camera itself is quite different from all other 5 Mpix units in two big
ways - firstly, it packs in 3x optical zoom as well as 1:3.5-6.8, focal
length 4.75-14.25 mm.
The following resolutions are available :
2560x1920;
1600x1200;
1280x960;
800x600;
640x480;
320x240;
The G810 can capture video in VGA resolution (30 FPS), when shotting
in QVGA, you can get frame rates of up 120 per second. With the video
editor application, users are able to edit images taken on the phone and
share with friends and family without connecting to a PC.

Conclusion
The Samsung G810 is due to arrive in March , and the price will be around
450-500 Euro.The phone has a few great features like GPS-Navigation ,
WiFI connectivity , 2 Gb memory card,5 megapixel camera.We can't say with
certainty what the price tag will be , but if it's going to be around
450 euros than this phone will be worth every cent , if not the competition
offers a little more that the G810 at a slitter higher price.
