 |
At the Mobile World Congress , Nokia presented the successor
of its flagship the N95, the new Nokia N96.The N96 is a dual slider
, and has the same black glossy surface as the N81, similar controls
, and on the edges a small silver stripe to make it more stylish.
|
The sales package contains : Handset , Li-Ion battery, USB
data cable , TV cable, Remote control and headphones, Charger , Car charger
.
Nokia N96 has the dimensions of : 103x55x18 mm and it weights 125 grams. The
handset is pretty big , and this feeling doesn't go away when you're holding
it in your hand, of course , almost every flagship was a bit bigger than
a normal handset.

The design is pretty attractive , and for now the phone only comes
in one color , and that is black.
On the top of the handset is the keypad lock slider a 3.5 mm headphones
jack and the power button. On the left side we can find the microSD memory
card slot covered by a plastic flap.On the right side you will find two
speakers under a metal grill, as well as the camera button and volume
rocker. On the bottom we can find the microUSB socket and charger slot.As
we mentioned before the N96 is a dual slider that can be pushed both up
and down if you push it down you'll find the phone's musical controls.
On the back side are the two LED flash, and the lens of a 5 Mpix CMOS
camera with autofocus
,which is in pretty much similar to the one in the Nokia N95. Also on
the back side you'll find around the lens rim is a folding stand that
allows for a video-friendly setup when you put the N96 on a flat surface.

Being a flagship , the build quality is really good , the phone is
pretty solid and feels like a quality product. Nokia N96 has a similar
navy key to the N81 , as for the numerical keys , they are glossy , their
size is average and all in all the buttons are easy to work with. They
are lit in white and are well visible in any environment.
The phone has a 2.8-inch QVGA display with a resolution of 240x320
pixels, and16 million colors ,the display is easy to read , and even in
direct sun light the display remains clear and the information displayed
can be read without any problems.
The N96's diagonal is a clear improvement over the original
N95 and its 2,6 inches (which is also quite a difference compared to other
2- and 2,2-inch units). The increased diagonal normally brings about a
more blurry image, however thanks to the N96's brighter display, you will
hardly notice this effect.
The phone has a 950 mAh Li-Ion battery, the N96 has a battery life
of 3.6 hours talk time and up to 220 hours standby time.
The N96 has an impressive 16 Gb of internal memory and supports
memory cards where you can fit 8 GB memory card for a total of 24GB of
storage.. The handset has the internal memory separated in a few sections, and
for preinstalled applications,contacts..etc the handset has "Disk
C" which has 256 Mb but just 180 Mb are available to the user.
Nokia N96 has Wi-Fi support and it comes with Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11
g) support , the connection is easily established and if you still have
troubles with it , there is always the Wi-Fi wizard that can help you.The
handset has USB 2.0 support, and EDR-enabled Bluetooth 2.0 with all important
profiles being supported, and after you connect the device to your PC
you have to choose from the following :
" Data Transfer (Mass Storage USB)
" PC Suite
" Image Print
" Media Player (MTP protocol)
The N96 has an integrated DVB-H mobile TV tuner for watching TV programmes
, but being a DVB-H you wont' be able to use it unless your region supports
the DVB-H standard.
Nokia N96 has FM radio with RDS , and with 16 Gb of memory there is a
lot of space for all your favorites songs , the produces claims that the
N96 can deliver up to 14 hours of music.
Camera
The camera found on the N96 is the same as the one in the Nokia N95
, the same 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and Carl Zeiss Tessar lens,
just that on the N96 there are now two LEDs doing flash and video light
duty. The phone has two cameras one forward-facing QVGA unit can be activated
via the menu, and the main 5 megapixel camera on the back of the phone.
The camera has auto focus, and after you have taken a picture you
can go back to the main screen with an impressive speed. After you've taken
a picture, you can upload it to any online services, like VOX and Flickr. The
camera lens is protected by a cover and if you open it ,it launches the
camera. The resolutions are :
· Print 5M - large, ( 2592x1944 pixels )
· Print 3M - Medium (2048x1536 pixels)
· Print 2 M- Medium (1600x1200 pixels)
· E-mail 0.8 M - Med. (1024x768 pixels)
· MMS 0.3 M - Small (640x480 pixels)
The phone has no stabilization technologies for the images, so in
certain situationes you might get some bad shots. The camera also has the
geo tagging functionality which will automatically tag the images with
the GPS location coordinates, which you can later use when sorting the
pictures on your PC or online photo service.
